Dozens of masked anti-Israel protesters on Wednesday stormed one of Columbia University’s libraries as students were prepping for their final exams.
The Ivy League school served as the epicenter of the antisemitic protests that broke out at numerous colleges across the country last year, and has been engulfed in a federal funding battle with the Trump administration over its crackdown on antisemitism.
It is not clear how many protesters raided the library, but the New York Post reported that the demonstrators pushed past a security guard to get into the building and hung up signs over bookshelves. One of the signs declared the library a “liberated zone” and another featured the name of an anti-Israel activist who was killed by the Israeli Defense Forces in 2017.
The protest comes the same day that House Republicans grilled university presidents on Capitol Hill about antisemitism on their campuses, but the acting president of Columbia University was not among them.
