Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said Tuesday at a Moms for Liberty press conference that the future of children’s learning must be family-focused and not rooted in the government.

“The future of American education must be marked… please pay attention to this- [it] must be marked not by government control, but by family nurture,” McMahon said on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Moms for Liberty held a press conference to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision of Pierce v. Society of Sisters, in which the higher court struck down a statute in Oregon that required all children to attend public school.

“This administration promises to be the parental rights administration,” McMahon said. “You can already see this promise being kept through our priorities: school choice [and] giving parents the power to select education options that align with their values and their children’s needs.”

Other officials at the press conference were Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., and Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla.
