First lady Melania Trump on Thursday hosted the first artificial intelligence education roundtable at the White House, which marked the first meeting of the AI education task force and included several top technology leaders.
The meeting comes before President Donald Trump is expected to host tech leaders at a dinner in the newly renovated White House Rose Garden Thursday evening.Â
The first lady was joined in the discussion by Google CEO Sundar Pichai and IBM chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was in the audience. Altman and Pichai will join the Trumps later for the dinner along with Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Bill Gates, according to The Hill.
Melania Trump helped get the Take It Down Act passed earlier this year, which requires online platforms to remove non-consensual intimate images, including those created or altered through AI, within 48 hours of receiving a valid request from a potential victim.
“I predict AI will represent the single largest growth category in our nation during this administration — and I won’t be surprised if AI becomes known as the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America,” Melania Trump said. “But as leaders and parents, we must manage AI’s growth responsibly. During this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children — empowering but with watchful guidance.”Â
The first lady also announced the presidential AI challenge last week, which encourages young people and educators to create innovative AI-based solutions to challenges they see in their communities.
