Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey is set to become an immigrant detention center.

A defense department spokesperson told media outlets that the timeframe depends on operational requirements and coordination with the Homeland Security Department.

Democrats including New Jersey Congressman Herb Conaway and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker have criticized the plan.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday that Camp Atterbury in Indiana would also house detained immigrants.
