Missouri governor signs Trump-backed plan that could help Republicans win another US House seat

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe on Sunday signed into law a new U.S. House map designed to bolster Republican chances in next year’s congressional elections, aligning with former President Donald Trump’s effort to preserve the GOP’s narrow majority in the House.

The revised map is crafted to give Republicans an edge in one additional district, potentially strengthening the party’s hold on Missouri’s eight-member delegation.

Opponents have launched a referendum petition that could send the map to a statewide vote. Several lawsuits have also been filed, challenging the legality and fairness of the new district lines.

The outcome of those challenges could determine whether Republicans are able to gain the advantage they’re seeking.
