At least 11 people were taken to hospitals in the Myrtle Beach area by first responders following “an apparent shooting incident” in Little River, half an hour from the iconic beach town, the Horry County Police Department said late Sunday.
While it said “we have received reports of others arriving at area hospitals via personal vehicles,” it determined just 40 minutes later this was likely “an isolated incident” and assured the public there was “no risk to the community at this time.”
Law enforcement didn’t give the condition of anyone arriving at the hospital, including any deaths, but North Myrtle Beach spokeswoman Lauren Jessie told the Associated Press that its own police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg when responding to the shooting but was in stable condition.
Horry County spokesperson Mikayla Moskov told The Sun News the shooting took place at a dock in the Watson Avenue area. “Police were investigating onboard the Hurricane II party boat by the docks,” the newspaper reported.
