The New York Knicks are striking out on their head coach candidates, and one potential suitor is making his stance clear before they come calling.

After making their first Eastern Conference Finals since 2000, the Knicks surprised the rest of the league by firing head coach Tom Thibodeau. After helping the Knicks to their most successful five-year stretch this century, Thibodeau was suddenly without a job, and it seemed like New York must have had a replacement ready to go.

Of course, we now know that was far from the case. Over the past several days, the Knicks have reportedly asked for permission to interview a slew of NBA head coaches, including rumored top option Jason Kidd. In each instance, the Mavericks and every other team the Knicks called refused to allow New York to interview their sitting head coach.

Considering how the Knicks have had no luck finding another guy at the NBA level, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them shift their coaching search to the college ranks. However, one of the top potential candidates is taking his name out of the running before any rumors spark.

Arkansas head coach John Calipari complimented the Knicks’ situation for any potential head coach on Golic and Golic, even saying the position was “a hell of a job.” However, the 2012 NCAA champion coach reasserted his commitment to Arkansas as he enters his second season with the program.

Surely, the Knicks will find their guy in the near future, but for now, they’re even getting rejected by coaches they haven’t offered.
