Tom Barrack, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and special envoy for Syria, said on Sunday that the new Syrian government is assisting the U.S. in “locating and returning USA citizens or their remains.”
He also mentioned that GOP Congressman Abraham Hamadeh of Arizona has been helping locate Kayla Mueller.
“The new Syrian government has agreed to assist the USA in locating and returning USA citizens or their remains. The families of Austin Tice, Majd Kamalmaz, and Kayla Mueller must have closure,” he wrote on X.
“Congressman Abraham Hamadeh has consistently championed justice for Kayla Mueller. Honoring her legacy, he took his oath of office on her family’s Bible. He and the Mueller family will finally find a co-operative Syrian government counterpart to bring truth and closure,” he added.Â
Barrack had a meeting with Syria’s new President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Saturday.Â
“Today, I met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani in Istanbul to implement President Trump’s bold decision to provide a path for peace and prosperity in Syria,” Barrack wrote on social media.
