A New York tour bus on Friday crashed while transporting at least 50 passengers back to New York City from Niagara Falls, leaving multiple people dead and others injured.
It is not clear how many people were killed or injured in the crash, but the New York State Police are investigating the incident, which occurred on Interstate 90. No cause of the crash has been identified so far.
“Preliminary reports indicate the bus, carrying more than 50 passengers, overturned. Multiple individuals have been injured, with several confirmed fatalities,” the state police said in a news release. “Emergency personnel, including State Police, local first responders, and multiple medical helicopters, are on scene providing aid and transporting victims to area hospitals.
“A passenger manifest provided by the bus company confirms 52 individuals, including the driver, were on board,” the police continued. “Several witnesses observed the bus lose control, enter the median, then cross to the southern shoulder and overturn.”
New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul confirmed that she has been briefed on the “tragic” crash and is working with state police and local officials to provide assistance.
