California Governor Gavin Newsom signaled on Sunday that he would seriously weigh a presidential run after the 2026 midterm elections take place.

Newsom was asked whether he would give “serious thought” to a White House campaign once the nation’s attention shifts beyond next year’s contests.

“Yeah, I’d be lying otherwise,” he said, according to CBS News.

His current term ends in January 2027, and California’s term-limit laws prevent him from seeking another governorship.
