During Nolan Arenado’s time with the St. Louis Cardinals, he has shown he’s still one of baseball’s best third basemen. Not only has he been strong at the plate and in the field, but he’s also built strong connections during his time in St. Louis.
After reaching a career milestone, Arenado shouted out a former teammate of his, who also happens to be one of the few players who also reached the milestone. John Denton of MLB.com shared Arenado’s reaction to reaching 1,900 hits and 400 doubles in his career.
“To be amongst those guys, it’s an amazing feeling, because they are some of the best to ever play,” Arenado said. “It’s an honor to be up there with my boy (Paul Goldschmidt)l because he’s like a big brother. I’ve had a lot of help, and I’d thank a lot of people. It’s been amazing to go out there and compete.”
Of the active players who have reached 1,900 hits and 400 doubles, Arenado’s former teammate, Paul Goldschmidt, is one of them. The two played together in St. Louis for four years, and they each are in the middle of Hall of Fame-caliber careers.
Arenado has 1,901 hits, 400 doubles, 351 home runs, and 57.7 career WAR. Goldschmidt, on the other hand, now with the New York Yankees, has 2,139 hits, 461 doubles, 370 home runs, and 63.9 WAR.
The two are in the middle of incredible careers, and Arenado has a lot of praise for Goldschmidt. Joining such elite company with Goldschmidt, along with Jose Altuve, Freddie Freeman, Andrew McCutchen, and Manny Machado, has made Arenado appreciative and reflective on his MLB career.
He’s played 13 seasons in the Major League and is locked up through the 2027 season. At age 34, this contract might be his last, but even if it is, he’s had an incredible MLB career. Reaching the 1,900 hit and 400 doubles milestones in the same game is cause for celebration, and for Arenado, retrospection.
