Actor Sam Heughan made his first big screen appearance at the age of 21 in 2001, although it was his casting as Jamie Fraser in TV series “Outlander” in 2014 that really thrust him into the public eye.
The 45-year-old’s portrayal of dashing Highland warrior Fraser in the historical fantasy turned him into a heartthrob overnight. The flowing locks, the hulking frame, the kilt and, according to many, the Scottish accent, were the most eye-catching parts of the Heughan package, wooing fans across the globe.
Sam Heughan debuts “new” look
Last week, the actor was in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con to debut the eighth and final season of “Outlander,” scheduled to premiere in early 2026 (an exact date has yet to be announced). However, many were forced to do a double take to check that it was in fact “Jamie Fraser” who was talking up the last installment of the time travel thriller.

Gone was Heughan’s characteristic long hair, the Scot instead opting for a no-nonsense buzz cut, presumably after season 8 filming was completed, although we will have to wait until it is released to find out for certain.
Heughan fans will, of course, be well aware of his tendency to cut his hair shorter between seasons. With “Outlander” now coming to an end, will we ever see him with those distinctive longer locks again?
Life after “Outlander” for Heughan…and TV fans
At San Diego Comic-Con, Heughan admitted that after more than a decade, the show’s cast were ready to focus on something new. “I think we’re ready to move on. It’s a long time…I think it’s good for change, and it’s good for people to mix things up.”
Fans of the series needn’t be too downhearted, though, as a spinoff series, focusing on the lives of the parents of Jamie Fraser and wife Claire, is just days away from making its debut. “The Blood of My Blood” premieres on STARZ on August 8.
