Packers-Rams trade pitch sends $4 million ‘depth’ piece to Los Angeles to back up Davante Adams

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a major defensive decision that led to the release of cornerback Jaire Alexander. While Alexander has shown flashes of elite play, his recurring injuries throughout his time in Green Bay ultimately made him a contract risk the team wasn’t willing to take.

Looking ahead, the Packers have several big decisions to make at the wide receiver position—especially after drafting Matthew Golden, who’s already making waves during offseason activities. Golden has also quickly formed a bond with the Green Bay fanbase.

“Starting to realize Green Bay not too big, so a lot of people gonna recognize me. But it’s a blessing just to be able to be around people that care about you … for me it’s just being able to show my face and show that I love being here,” Golden said.

The Packers may soon face a tough choice between Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson. One could be traded or simply allowed to walk in free agency. Watson, who’s recovering from an ACL injury, has shown encouraging progress.

“On Friday, he shared an Instagram video of himself sprinting and running routes—his most active showing yet since the injury,” reported Athlon Sports’ Felipe Reis Aceti.

That leaves Doubs as a potential odd man out in the Packers’ receiving corps—and if so, he may be headed to Los Angeles.

“The Los Angeles Rams might want to take a flier on Doubs as depth behind Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. L.A. parted with both Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson this offseason and employs passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant,” Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote.

A change of scenery could be beneficial for Doubs, and the Packers’ front office has a decision to make. If a trade does happen, he’d remain on a contender and gain the chance to learn from one of the league’s best in Davante Adams.
