The Boston Red Sox have won four out of their last five games and seem to have bounced back after a rough stretch following the Rafael Devers trade.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the Red Sox have some roster decisions to make. The Red Sox have pieces they could deal at the deadline, including one of their surplus of talented outfielders. Boston currently has too many outfielders to get with Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony and Rob Refsnyder, with Masataka Yoshida close to returning to the field as well.

The Red Sox will inevitably end up moving one of these outfielders at some point, and USA Today’s Bob Nightengale believes that it would make the most sense for the San Diego Padres to trade for Duran.

“The Padres are spreading the word to every seller that they are searching for a right-handed hitting outfielder and a catcher, and aren’t afraid to deal their prospects,” Nightengale wrote.

“They still believe they have the team to end their World Series drought, particularly with Yu Darvish’s imminent return and potentially Michael King’s shortly after the All-Star break. Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran still makes the most sense for the Padres.”

Duran hasn’t impressed as much as he did in 2024 when he was named an All-Star for the first time in his career, but is still performing well, slashing .255/.312/.728 with six home runs and 44 RBIs. The 28-year-old is under team control through 2028 with an $8 million club option next season before two years of arbitration.

The Padres are set in right field and center field, but adding a player like Duran would certainly give them a boost as they eye a deep playoff run this postseason.
