It is finally the month of trades. The MLB trade deadline is July 31 and teams are thinking about if they want to buy and push toward the playoffs or if they want to sell or even hold off at the deadline.
In a Fansided article from Mark Powell, Powell named a player from all 30 MLB teams that is the leading trade candidate. Powell quotes a team writer for each team in his story.
For the Detroit Tigers, Powell listed minor league catchers Thayron Liranzo or Josue Briceno as the two most likely players the Tigers will trade at the deadline quoting Chris Landers of Fansided.
âThe good news is that Scott Harris sure sounds like he wants to get aggressive at the deadline, and he has one of the best farm systems in baseball at his disposal. Shortstop Bryce Rainerâs injury likely removes him from consideration, but one of Detroitâs pair of top young catchers (Thayron Liranzo, Josue Briceno) could be expendable,â Landers said.
Whether they attach the catchers on a bigger deal and buy at the deadline, or if they send them off to another team in a smaller trade, Detroit boasts of a deep farm system that they can use to their advantage at the trade deadline.
Trading a piece like Briceno can give Detroit a piece to help them go on a run to the World Series. In 2025, Briceno is batting .291 in High-A with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs. On Monday, Briceno was named as one of three Detroit prospects that will participate in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.
