A Palestinian man on Friday rammed his car into a crowd of people, killing another man, then fatally stabbed a young woman in northern Israel, according to police.

The incidents resulted in Israel’s defense minister ordering a military retaliation on what he said was the attacker’s West Bank hometown, according to CBS News.

The attack began in the northern city of Beit Shean. A teenager was reportedly injured in the car ramming that killed the 68-year-old man. The suspect sped away but stopped on a highway where he stabbed the 18-year-old woman, said police. The man was 68 and the woman, 18, said paramedics, who pronounced both dead at the scene.

The attacker was headed for the nearby city of Afula when a security officer shot him, Israeli President Isaac Herzog said.
