Phil Robertson and his family were brought to the screens of households across the U.S. through the hit reality show Duck Dynasty. On May 25, 2025, his daughter-in-law Korie Robertson announced via social media that Phil had passed away at the age of 79.

His passing follows a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s

The Duck Dynasty star was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2024, a condition that was publicly acknowledged by his son Jase Robertson during a December episode of the family’s podcast. However, few additional details about his health were shared with the public.

Robertson was briefly banned from Duck Dynasty

Robertson and his family quickly gained notoriety through the popularity of their program, which aired on A&E from 2012 to 2017. However, he was not without his detractors.

In 2013, he made controversial statements in an interview with GQ Magazine, claiming that engaging in “homosexual behavior” was sinful and comparing it to bestiality. As a result, A&E suspended him from the show, but the ban was lifted nine days later following an intense backlash from fans.

The family continued filming the show through 2017, when it was eventually canceled by the network. However, this summer, A&E is set to release a new spin-off—one of several that have emerged since the original series ended—titled Duck Dynasty: The Revival. Phil was reportedly not going to be featured due to his declining health. Instead, the series will focus on his son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Korie Robertson, along with their children, who have continued to grow and manage the family business.
