Fans of the famous filmmaker Quentin Tarantino are frustrated with the news that, what was set to be his last film, ‘The Movie Critic’ is apparently now not going ahead with the project cancelled according to many sources. Tarantino himself felt the project was too similar to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and lost enthusiasm and decided it wasn’t the right film to end his career on.

So, as we await the next steps from the man behind celluloid classics such as: Pulp Fiction’, ‘Jackie Brown, ‘Inglourious Basterds, and the two installments of ‘Kill Bill’, Tarantino did let slip one of the names of a leading actor he would like to work with. The 62-year-old admitted, during the promotion of ‘The Hateful Eight, that he would like to work with a Latino actor whom he considers “the Al Pacino of Argentina.” And that is none other than Ricardo Darín.

Tarantino’s ‘Argentine Al Pacino’

Ricardo Darín has been enthralling film fans for years with his roles and performances, as varied as they are surprising; and recently he dazzled critics with his role in the Netflix series ‘El Eternauta’.

Darín has been receiving accolades for more than 25 years for his work in films such as ‘Nine Queens’, ‘Son of the Bride’, ‘Kamchatka’, ‘The Aura’, ‘The Secret in Their Eyes’, ‘A Chinese Tale’, ‘Wild Tales’ or, more recently, ‘Argentina, 1985’, among many others.

“When are you coming to Argentina to film?” Tarantino was asked during his promotional tour of South America for the premiere of ‘The Hateful Eight. “I would love to,” Tarantino replied. “And not just to go to Argentina. One of my favorite Spanish-speaking actors is Ricardo Darín. I think he’s fantastic. He’s on par with Al Pacino, he’s amazing. He’s the Al Pacino of Argentina. I would love to work with him someday,” the acclaimed filmmaker acknowledged.

“I have a lot of friends in Argentina, so I would have places to go and stay,” Tarantino continued. “And in fact, I don’t know if you remember, but I gave the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film to Argentina for ‘The Secret in Their Eyes,’ alongside Pedro Almodóvar,” the ‘Pulp Fiction’ director recalled.

Ricardo Darín was part of the cast of the Oscar-winning film, so Tarantino knows exactly what he’s talking about. However, Darín himself acknowledged that Hollywood isn’t his main goal as an actor:

“Hollywood doesn’t keep me up at night or drive me crazy. Maybe it’s my age. I come from a generation where the most that could happen was that you had to make soap operas because that was the international market. If you wanted to have international impact… I’m not interested in that either,” Darín said in an interview, so Tarantino might not have such an easy time landing him.
