Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., is seeking to trigger a vote on the End Congressional Stock Trading Act in the House.
Luna filed a resolution on Friday to speed up the bill’s consideration by the full chamber.
Luna is using a discharge petition, which would force a vote on the bill if it garners 218 signatures, regardless of whether congressional leadership supports the measure.
The resolution, if adopted, would require immediate floor action on the End Congressional Stock Trading Act, which prohibits members of Congress, their spouses and dependent children from owning or trading individual stocks, bonds and commodities.
“No one sent to Congress should be enriching themselves through Wall Street while writing the very laws that regulate our markets,” she said in a statement.
