Senate Republicans are expected to make major alterations to the House-passed “big beautiful bill”, especially key provisions related to rolling back the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act.
The House narrowly passed the legislation in a 215-214 vote, with two Republicans joining Democrats to oppose the measure, and two more failing to vote.
The Republican-led legislation included provisions to limit the ability of wind and solar companies to claim energy tax credits, though Senate Republicans plan to limit those provisions when their turn comes to pass legislation, Politico reported.
A group of Senate Republicans, including Sens. Jerry Moran, Kansas; Lisa Murkowski, Alaska; John Curtis, Utah; Thom Tillis, N.C.; have all expressed concerns that the provisions go too far and have indicated that they will roll them back in their version.
“Undoubtedly, there’s going to be changes,” Tillis told Politico.
The House and Senate plans, should the upper chamber succeed in passing its own, will head to a reconciliation process, which is expected to see lawmakers feud intensely over their preferred variations on the GOP agenda.
