Sharon Stone has come to Sydney Sweeney’s defense after the “Euphoria” star faced backlash for wearing a revealing dress to Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles.
Sweeney turned heads with a nearly transparent gown that showed off her figure, drawing criticism online and even from some public figures. But the 66-year-old Basic Instinct star, who knows all about life under Hollywood’s microscope, had nothing but praise for her fellow actress.

“It’s hard to be hot”
“It’s OK to use what mama gave you,” Stone said. “It’s hard to be hot; I think we all know that. It’s really OK to use every bit of hotness you have.”
She added, “Everyone has their own kind of hotness, and you’re supposed to go for that. Who are you not to be beautiful? What you are isn’t an accident.”
Jeans ad campaign controversy
This isn’t the first time Sweeney has found herself at the center of an online debate. Earlier this year, she appeared in a campaign for American Eagle jeans that sparked accusations of racism because of its slogan: “Sydney Sweeney’s got great jeans.” Critics claimed it played on the words “jeans” and “genes.”

A lesson from Jane Goodall
Stone also recalled a conversation she once had with Sweeney about the late primatologist Jane Goodall, who passed away on October 1. Goodall, who famously appeared on the cover of Life magazine for her groundbreaking work with gorillas, once heard that she had been chosen for the cover “because she had great legs.”
Stone said Goodall’s response was simple but powerful: “Well, if that’s the reason, it helped me get more funding for my research.”
