South Carolina GOP Attorney General Alan Wilson on Wednesday slammed California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, saying he can’t properly run a state.

“He is here campaigning for the next presidential election because he thinks South Carolina is somehow gonna propel him,” Wilson said on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show.

Newsom has been in South Carolina for the past two days to talk to rural voters, sparking speculation of a presidential run in 2028, according to CNN.

Wilson said he doesn’t think Newsom is being greeted the way he thinks he is and would like to be in the state.

“To me, Governor Newsom is Exhibit A on how not to effectively and efficiently run a state,” Wilson said.

The South Carolina Republican Party commented on Newsom’s visit to the state.

“U-Haul’s 2024 report says it all: people are leaving California and heading here,” the party wrote on X. “He’s following the trucks — but we’re not buying what he’s selling.”
