The Pittsburgh Steelers need to add another wide receiver in the wake of the team trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.
With Pickens gone, the Steelers are left with DK Metcalf and a slew of question marks that has their receiving corps. in the same spot it was last season.
Behind Metcalf, the Steelers have an over-the-hill Robert Woods, who was acquired in free agency, 2024 third-rounder Roman Wilson, and Calvin Austin, among others. Safe to say, there isn’t a true No. 2 target in the lot.
Pittsburgh has reportedly been looking around for a trade to remedy the situation, and one player the Steelers should have an eye on is Green Bay Packers wideout, Romeo Doubs.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport recently predicted that the Steelers would pull off a trade with the Packers for the 25-year-old wide receiver.
“Doubs wouldn’t be a fantasy superstar in Pittsburgh. But his value would be higher than it is if he remains in Green Bay,” Davenport wrote.
Green Bay already had a crowded situation at wide receiver entering this offseason, but things are even more complicated after the team drafted Matthew Golden in the first round and Savion Williams in the third.
That isn’t likely to sit well with Doubs, who became disgruntled over his role in 2024, which led to a one-game suspension from the Packers. As a result, it’s certainly possible Doubs is moved before the season starts.
The expectation is that the Steelers are going to sign Aaron Rodgers, who loves to work with receivers he knows. Rodgers and Doubs were teammates in 2022, and Rodgers is reportedly “very fond” of the Nevada product, so the future Hall of Famer would definitely be on board with acquiring him.
The former fourth-round pick has tallied over 600 yards in each of the past two seasons, and his 601 yards in 2024 came in just 13 contests. He would instantly slide into the No. 2 role in Pittsburgh’s offense, which would push the three aforementioned wide receivers to roles they’re more suited for.
Doubs offers a target that can make plays at all areas of the field, and he’s a reliable third-down option to boot. With Metcalf lining up across from him, Doubs could be unlocked and put together a season that nets him a strong second contract in 2026, whether it’s from the Steelers or another team.
In terms of trade compensation, it shouldn’t take more than a Day 3 pick to acquire Doubs. We could see Pittsburgh giving up a fourth- or fifth-round pick and getting one of Green Bay’s late-round selections in return, along with Doubs.
