Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., on Wednesday urged the Democrats to course correct in their approach to opposing the Trump administration, contending that there was “room for improvement” in how they pushed back on Trump.
Swalwell made the remarks during an interview with The Hill, saying “all of our colleagues are stepping up and recognizing that this is not, to the voters, an approach of ‘Are you far left or center-left?’ It’s more, ‘Are you bringing old tactics to this challenge or are you bringing new tactics?’”
He further quipped about the traditional congressional modes of expressing criticism, including by “sending an eight-page strongly worded letter.”
He instead pointed to “using everything we have inside the House procedurally to stop Donald Trump” as an alternative approach. Since Trump’s return to the White House, Democrats have struggled to mount a coherent opposition to the administration, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer struggling to gain traction with public messaging.
