All-Star fan voting can lead to some quirks in Major League Baseball’s Midsummer Classic.
But there’s one quirk to this year’s early-voting results that we can’t let pass us by. It’s too cool.
In the American League outfield race, Yankees superstar Aaron Judge and Tigers star Riley Greene are in the 1-2 spots pretty comfortably.
But the third outfield starting spot is a heavily contested race. In third is Tigers’ outfield convert Javier Baez, at 901,969 votes. In fourth is Angels legend Mike Trout, at 889,474 votes.
Yes, really, in 2025 it’s an outfield race between El Mago the shortstop magician Baez who hadn’t put together a competent season in years, and Trout, the all-time great who has refused to stay healthy.

Sure, the voting doesn’t automatically mean these guys are the most worthy.
But let’s just appreciate how cool baseball is that these two guys can even be in this picture right now.
Baez’s career looked cooked for sure, but he’s had a renaissance at the plate while also moving out to centerfield.
Trout did miss a bit of time this season with injury, but he’s shown off his home run stroke when on the field.
It’s honestly a shame they likely won’t both start in the AL outfield. That’d be such a cool sight.
But thankfully, they’re both still around and in a groove right now. Don’t take that for granted.
