With her trademark elegance and that unmistakable smile, Diane Lane most recently graced our screens in 2024, reminding audiences why she has captivated hearts for more than four decades.
Lane’s appearances in Netflix miniseries “A Man in Full” and in the second season of anthology drama “Feud,” both of which were released last year, came 45 years after the actress made her film debut in George Roy Hill’s “A Little Romance” in 1979.
Aged just 14 at the time of that first acting adventure, Lane recently turned 60, with many fans struggling to believe she has now entered her seventh decade.
Diane Lane’s breakout performances and stumble
Soon after her acting debut, Lane’s breakout performances in “The Outsiders” and “Rumble Fish,” both in 1983, turned into one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars, although the commercial and critical failures of “Streets of Fire” and “The Cotton Club” briefly threatened to derail her career, causing her to drop out of the movie industry for three years.
Lane, however, bounced back with characteristic grace. In 1989, her starring role in the western miniseries “Lonesome Dove” earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress, almost leading to her first major accolade.
Academy Award nomination
Her most critically acclaimed performance arrived in 2002’s erotic thriller “Unfaithful,” in which she starred opposite Richard Gere and Olivier Martinez. The role earned her Best Actress nominations at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards, along with a win at the Satellite Awards.
Since then, Lane’s best-known roles have come as Martha Kent in four DC Extended Universe films and as Annette Shepherd in season six of political thriller “House of Cards,” while she is the voice of Riley’s Mom in the hugely successful “Inside Out” animated movies.

Is Diane Lane married? Does she have any children?
Away from the screen, Lane has been married twice, to fellow actors Christopher Lambert (1988–1994) and Josh Brolin (2004–2013). She has one daughter from her first marriage.
