The White House is reportedly planning to pull its nomination of Janette Nesheiwat to be surgeon general, sources told multiple news outlets on Wednesday.
The White House has not commented on the decision so far, but it will mark the second time that the administration has pulled a health nomination since President Donald Trump took office in January. It previously withdrew the nomination of Dave Weldon for Centers for Disease Control director in March.
Bloomberg reported that the decision comes after the revelation that Nesheiwat allegedly inflated her credentials by claiming she had a degree from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, when she actually graduated from a medical school in the Caribbean instead.Â
Nesheiwat did complete a residency at the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, through its family medicine program, but did not receive her degree from that school.
The expected withdrawal comes one day before Nesheiwat was scheduled to testify in front of the Senate Health committee for her confirmation hearing.
