President Donald Trump on Monday announced that he had intervened to negotiate a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia and had successfully concluded a peace agreement.

“Just spoke to the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand and Prime Minister of Cambodia,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “I am pleased to announce that, after the involvement of President Donald J. Trump, both Countries have reached a CEASEFIRE and PEACE. Congratulations to all! By ending this War, we have saved thousands of lives. I have instructed my Trade Team to restart negotiations on Trade. I have now ended many Wars in just six months β€” I am proud to be the President of PEACE!”

The South Asian nations had exchanged fire in recent days as part of a longstanding border dispute, resulting in casualties on both sides.

Trump’s intervention follows his successful negotiations to end a conflict between India and Pakistan earlier this year, for which Pakistan nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize.
