President Trump cited “pollsters” saying that the government shutdown and the president not being on the ballot on Tuesday were the reasons for Republicans’ loss on Election Day.

“‘TRUMP WASN’T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT, according to Pollsters,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Tuesday night.

Republicans lost every major contest in Tuesday night’s elections, as Democrats made a clean sweep of Virginia’s and New Jersey’s statewide races.

In New York City, socialist Zohran Mamdani overcame a bipartisan effort to rally behind former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to become mayor.

Meanwhile, in California, voters approved Proposition 50, allowing the state to circumvent the independent redistricting process that has been in effect for nearly two decades. It approves a new congressional map that gives the Democrats a chance to gain up to five House seats in the 2026 midterm elections.
