President Donald Trump on Thursday defended Ukraine launching direct strikes on Russian territory, insisting it was a necessary move for the country to defend itself.
He further tore into President Joe Biden for imposing such restrictions on Ukrainian use of American arms before contending that the war would not have occurred had he been president at the time.
“It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invader[‘]s country. It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defense, but is not allowed to play offense,” he posted on Truth Social. “There is no chance of winning! It is like that with Ukraine and Russia.”
“Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND,” he added. “How did that work out? Regardless, this is a war that would have NEVER happened if I were President – ZERO CHANCE. Interesting times ahead!!! President DJT”
Trump’s comments come in the wake of his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which have yet to result in a formal meeting or any agreement on a framework to end the war.
