President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order that extends his pause on Chinese tariffs for another 90 days as negotiations continue between the two global superpowers.

The order was signed just hours before the current pause was expected to expire, according to CNBC. The new order extends the pause until Nov. 9.

The extension comes after the two powers had a productive meeting in Switzerland last month. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed that the United States and China had ā€œthe makingsā€ of a trade deal and expressed optimism for future meetings.

Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on China as high as 245%, while China threatened retaliatory tariffs of 125%, according to The Guardian.
