Vice President JD Vance urged Americans Tuesday to be patient with the current administration when it comes to affordability and reflected on his own working-class upbringing in the Appalachian region of Ohio.
Vance first rose to prominence with his book “Hillbilly Elegy,” which highlighted the socioeconomic struggles of the Appalachian region, before he made a name for himself as a young Republican senator from Ohio and later vice president.Â
The vice president told Pennsylvanians during an affordability event in the Keystone state that he never forgot his roots and promised he understood the economic hardship many Americans are experiencing.
“I know what itâs like for a woman whoâs trying to support a grandson but canât afford her prescription drugs because pharmaceutical companies are taking advantage of the United States of America,â Vance said at a rally in Allentown.Â
“I remember what itâs like when you have to choose between putting food on the table or getting the prescription that you need to stay healthy,” he continued. “And that is not a life that [President] Donald Trump or I want for the citizens in the greatest country in the world.âÂ
The vice president’s event occurred as part of the Trump administration’s domestic tour that touts their economic agenda.Â
Vance told supporters that Democrats and the Biden administration were to blame for the economic struggles the country is facing, but that Trump’s team is devoted to fixing the ongoing affordability crisis.Â
âThis month, we are fighting for you every single day, and I donât want you to think for one second that, because Joe Biden gave us the worst economy in the world, that we forget it,â he said. âWe know exactly what weâre left with. We know exactly the consequences that itâs caused for so many of our great families all across Pennsylvania.
“I promise you, there is no person more impatient to solve the affordability crisis than Donald J. Trump,” he continued. “Democrats say, you know, âThings arenât affordable. This isnât affordable. This has gotten more expensive. Drugs have gotten more expensive. Housing has gotten more expensive.â And you know what? Theyâre right. And it was because of them.”
Vance claimed that the reason housing prices have increased in the past four years is because of illegal immigration and the Biden administration’s open border policies. He also reminded voters that it would take a while to fix the issues.Â
âI hear these Democrats talk about this as if you were going to fix these problems in a single day,â he said. âIt takes a little bit of time to fix something that was so fundamentally broken, and so when I hear the Democrats talk about the affordability crisis that they created, itâs a little bit like, you know, Charles Manson criticizing violent crime.Â
“Look in the mirror, my friend, you are the cause of the problem,” he added. “Donald J. Trumpâs administration is the solution to the problem that you created.”
