Venezuela will resume accepting deportation flights from the United States as the Trump administration applies increasing pressure on Caracas, including with the threat of direct strikes on its territory.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the policy change on Wednesday, Fox News reported. His pivot comes as the U.S. continues to attack suspected drug boats from that country in a bid to shut down maritime trafficking of drugs into the United States.
American goals in Venezuela remain somewhat unclear, with some Trump suggesting land strikes are on the table. The Maduro government also maintains ties with Russia and China.
In October of this year, President Donald Trump told reporters that Maduro had “offered us everything” to avoid a row with the United States.
