
The first trailer for The Running Man has dropped – and it’s brutal, stylish, and eerily timely. Loosely based on Stephen King’s novel (written as Richard Bachman) and a reimagining of the 1987 cult film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, this update stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a blue-collar dad forced into a televised bloodsport to pay for his daughter’s medical care.
Set in a near-future America obsessed with reality carnage, the show pits “Runners” against heavily armed “Hunters” in a 30-day survival gauntlet. Josh Brolin plays Dan Killian, the smirking producer behind the spectacle, who sees Ben as both a ratings boon and a problem.
Fast-paced, grim, and packed with social commentary, this looks like The Hunger Games on steroids – with more satire and fewer rules. Streaming release expected later this year. Here it is:
