‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ will be removed from ABC’s schedule indefinitely after the host’s remarks regarding the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The news comes amid a series of firings tied to public statements made by certain figures on the topic.
According to a report from Variety, ABC will remove the late-night show “indefinitely” after Nexstar Media, one of the country’s largest television station owners, announced it would stop broadcasting the program starting tonight in response to Jimmy Kimmel’s comments.
What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Charlie Kirk?
Jimmy Kimmel claimed that the MAGA movement (Make America Great Again) was trying to gain political advantage following Kirk’s death, who was fatally shot on September 10 during an event at Utah Valley University.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his Monday monologue.

Both the firings over comments about Charlie Kirk and the recent decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s show have sparked debate over the limits of free speech, First Amendment protections, and political intolerance.
“Buying and controlling media platforms. Firing commentators. Canceling shows. These aren’t coincidences. It’s coordinated. And it’s dangerous. The GOP does not believe in free speech. They are censoring you in real time.” shared California Governor Gavin Newsom.
First Stephen Colbert, now Jimmy Kimmel
In July, Paramount announced it would exit the late-night programming business and cancel the ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ in May of next year. While the company cited a drop in advertising, there is also speculation about potential political motivations due to Colbert’s criticism of the Trump administration.
After the network and Colbert himself revealed that the Late Show would end in 2026, former President Donald Trump celebrated the news and even suggested that Jimmy Kimmel, another host who has criticized him, would be next to be fired.
“I absolutely love that Colbert’ got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.,” the president shared on his Truth Social account at the time.
