With no-hitter intact, injury ends Brewers’ Jacob Misiorowski’s MLB debut

Thursday marked a highly-anticipated debut for the Brewers’ top prospect.

Jacob Misiorowski, the No. 68-ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline, got his big news earlier this week when he was called up to the big leagues. He was penciled in for the start in Thursday’s matchup against the Cardinals — and he got off to a historic start.  

Misiorowski tossed five no-hit innings, slowly beginning to flirt with an all-time MLB debut. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to see it through, as he was forced from the game due to injury.

Who is Jacob Misiorowski?

Misiorowski, a right-handed pitcher who played college baseball at Crowder and Louisiana State, was selected by the Brewers with the No. 63 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. He wound up signing for $2.35 million, the highest mark in Milwaukee’s 2022 class.

Misiorowski ascended through the minor leagues at a somewhat quick pace, reaching Double-A in 2023 and Triple-A in 2024. Standing at 6-7, Misiorowski is known for having a fastball that sits between 97-99 mph and extending his full body when he delivers, creating more of a challenge for hitters.

After being promoted to MLB by Milwaukee, his debut came Thursday against St. Louis at home.

Misiorowski had about as strong of a first five innings in the big leagues as a young pitcher can have. He tossed five no-hit innings, striking out five Cardinals along the way. Although he walked four batters, the top prospect looked excellent in his first start in Milwaukee.

The first three pitches of his MLB career were all at least 100 mph. 

His first career punchout against Willson Contreras came on a nasty slider.

Misiorowski was showing off his full arsenal, including a nice changeup for another strikeout.

It was a 100-mph fastball that got Misiorowski his final strikeout of the night in the fifth inning.

While Misiorowski was at 81 pitches when he faced his first batter of the sixth inning, he wasn’t pulled for that reason. It’s unlikely that the young pitcher would’ve gone the distance in a potential no-hitter, but he wound up being pulled after twisting his ankle on the mound.

As he walked back toward the mound after a pitch, his ankle rolled after getting his cleat stuck, and he met with trainers and the coaching staff before exiting, still with the no-hitter intact.

With the performance, Misiorowski became the ninth pitcher and sixth starter since 1900 to allow no runs in five innings during his major league debut. After the game, Misiorowski said he was ok and avoided a major injury.

“Cramped up and that’s when I just rolled it. All good. Nothing crazy, just a cramp,” he said.
