The Wyoming Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down a statewide ban on abortion pills in a 4-1 decision, The Hill reported.
The ruling marked the first such decision since the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion established in Roe v. Wade. The Dobbs v. Jackson decision of 2022 led to a number of statewide abortion bans.
The court found that the state “failed to prove the 2023 laws were ‘reasonable and necessary restrictions’ on the right to make one’s own health care decisions.”
While the United States Constitution does not outline a right to an abortion, the matter has turned to state-level legal cases, with a number of referendums seeking to amend the state constitutions to either prohibit or explicitly permit the practice.
