The New York Yankees’ infield could use some upgrades near the trade deadline. However, adding a starter means they will have to move on from one of their current players.
Right now, the Yankees’ infield features Paul Goldschmidt at first base, Anthony Volpe at shortstop, Jazz Chisholm Jr. at third base and a platoon of DJ LeMahieu and Jorbit Vivas at second base. However, FanSided’s Peyton Crowder suggested that Jorbit Vivas could be gone in a trade to land an upgrade in the infield.
“I would like to see the Yankees hold on to him and try to develop his game, but I could easily imagine the front office shipping him off, especially if they decide to pursue another infielder,” wrote Crowder. “Boone does seem to prefer (Oswald) Peraza over Vivas, so if one of them has to go in order to make room for an imported infielder, I envision Vivas being the one who would make way.”
Realistically, the Yankees need just one infielder. LeMahieu has struggled at the plate since his return. The Yankees could simply acquire an everyday second baseman and move LeMahieu to a bench role. However, Chisholm’s versatility allows them to also explore the third base market.
If the Yankees add a starting third or second baseman, he would join Chisholm, Goldschmidt and Volpe to form the Yankees’ new preferred infield. Vivas is a top 30 prospect, but early results make him a candidate to be moved.

He is hitting just .156 with a .522 OPS. He has been good defensively, but the Yankees will need a better option than Vivas or LeMahieu if they want to make it back to the World Series.
