New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. could be playing a new position when he returns to the club from injury.

Well, not entirely new — Chisholm played the position last season for the Yanks but has not yet in 2025.

Chisholm is set to play a rehab game tomorrow, and he’ll do so at third base, per Yankees beat writer Greg Joyce.

“Jazz Chisholm Jr. will play 3B in his rehab game tomorrow, per Boone,” Joyce posted to X on Wednesday night.

“Yankees want him to keep that flexibility, no official decision has been made that that’s where he’ll play when he comes back, but sounds headed that way.”

Chisholm was sent to the Injured List back on May 2 with a high-grade right oblique strain he suffered versus the Baltimore Orioles on April 29.

MRI results revealed that the strain had caused multiple tears, indicating the injury was far more serious than initially thought. However, Chisholm’s gift as a fast healer has helped him this month. He’s been taking batting practice with Double-A Somerset Patriots leading up to Thursday’s rehab assignment.

Before getting injured, Chisholm was underperforming at the plate. In 105 at-bats in 2025, Jazz has a .181 batting average and .714 OPS, although he has tallied seven home runs and six stolen bases.

No doubt, Chisholm will get his hitting numbers up in due time, and the Yankees are excited to have him close to being back in the everyday lineup.
