The New York Yankees bullpen has a great duo at the backend with Luke Weaver and Devin Williams. However, they could use some more reliable arms for the postseason.
The Yankees’ bullpen has the seventh-best ERA in baseball. However, when October starts, there is no such thing as too many good arms in the bullpen. FanSided’s Lucas Babits-Feinerman suggested the Yankees trade for Gregory Soto of the Baltimore Orioles. Soto is a two-time All-Star.
“Soto’s good against both lefties and righties, but he dominates lefties, so he would provide the Yankees with a second specialist in the bullpen to complement Tim Hill and prevent Aaron Boone from getting too creative in high-leverage situations,” wrote Babits Feinerman. “His most frequently thrown pitch is his sinker, and he has a devastating slider with a 48.2% whiff rate. He’s a groundball pitcher, which is excellent in Yankee Stadium.”
Soto has a 3.41 ERA this season in 35 appearances. He is having somewhat of a resurgent year with the Orioles after pitching to a 4.53 ERA in the last two seasons. He is a few years removed from his All-Star seasons with the Detroit Tigers, but he could be an asset for the Yankees right now.
All but six of his outings have come in the seventh inning or later. Having Soto, Weaver and Williams to cover the final three innings of a postseason game could be key to the Yankees putting opponents away. The Orioles are poised to be sellers at the deadline, and Soto will be a free agent when the year ends anyway.

The Yankees are hanging on to a lead in the American League East. The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays are not far behind. Perhaps the Orioles, already being out of the race, would be willing to deal Soto to the Yankees.
