The New York Yankees will have a busy trade deadline, but we don’t yet know which direction they’ll take it.

Starting pitching, bullpen, and infield are the three main targets the Yankees might pursue. Depending on how players on the current roster perform, and how aggressively other teams go after the same players, New York might end up with all of the above, or something less.

On the subject of pitching, the Yankees’ current rotation is performing over the last few weeks, but that won’t stop general manager Brian Cashman from adding a starter he thinks can help get the team over the hump in the playoffs.

Perhaps a two-time All-Star southpaw would qualify.

On Friday, Pinstripes Nation’s Sara Molnick speculated that Los Angeles Angels starter Tyler Anderson could be a top target for the Yankees ahead of the Jul. 31 deadline.

“Anderson has emerged as 2025’s most underrated performer with his 3.99 ERA,” Molnick wrote. “Los Angeles continues sliding from contention, making him an obvious trade candidate for the Yankees.”

Anderson won’t rack up many strikeouts, as he has only 57 in 70 innings this year. He relies heavily on fly balls to stay in the ballpark, which makes Yankee Stadium a high-risk, high-reward fit depending on whether those fly balls go to the deep power alleys or toward the short porch in right field.

Anderson’s three-year, $39 million contract turned into a roller coaster for the Angels, as the lefty put up a 5.43 ERA in year one and then made the All-Star team a year later. Collecting some trade capital for him in the final season would be a fitting high note to cap things off.

But at the same moment, his Yankees story would only just be getting started.
