In a move that stunned Hollywood insiders, Amazon MGM Studios secured full creative control of the iconic James Bond film franchise for a mere $20 million, according to a UK tax filing from EON Productions.
The deal, finalized on February 20, 2025, transferred ownership of the franchise’s creative rights, all associated assets, and EON’s subsidiaries—B24 Limited and B25 Limited—to Amazon MGM.
This figure is dramatically lower than the previously rumored $1 billion price tag, especially considering the franchise’s global box office success and cultural legacy. To put it in perspective, Daniel Craig reportedly earned more than that for his final Bond film, No Time to Die.

A new era for 007
Despite the sale, longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson aren’t stepping away entirely. As part of the agreement, they’ve joined Amazon in a joint venture to continue shaping the future of the Bond brand. While the name of this new entity hasn’t been officially confirmed, industry speculation points to “London Operations” as the likely candidate, based on recent trademark activity.
There may also be additional financial arrangements tied to future profits or creative milestones that haven’t yet been disclosed.
What’s next for Bond?
The next installment in the Bond saga—tentatively titled Bond 26—is already in development. Denis Villeneuve, acclaimed director of Dune and Blade Runner 2049, is set to helm the project, while Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, will pen the screenplay.
However, casting for the next 007 remains on hold until Villeneuve wraps production on Dune: Part Three. So fans eager to learn who will don the tuxedo next will have to wait a bit longer.
This landmark deal marks a turning point for one of cinema’s most enduring franchises. With Amazon now steering the creative ship, Bond’s future could be bolder—and more unpredictable—than ever.
